Who Actually Built Lingua-Lab (And Why We Made the Free Trial the Whole Product, Not a Demo)

The most useful thing we built at Lingua-Lab is the thing we never ask you to pay for first.

We made the free trial the entire product on purpose, and that decision came from watching how language learning actually fails. People don't quit because the apps are bad. They quit because the apps gave them a taste of something, took their card, and then revealed that the thing they thought they bought was a stripped-down demo. So we flipped it. The free tier is the real app — every lesson, every exercise type, every progress tracker. You only pay to extend the runway once you already know the thing works for you.

Three things that follow from that.

First, no artificial ceiling on the free tier that punishes serious learners. Other platforms cap you at one lesson a day or hide the harder exercises behind a paywall so the practice stays shallow. Lingua-Lab lets you do the full session a paying user gets. If you want to do thirty minutes a night for three months without paying, the app will not nag you or shrink your lesson quality.

Second, every feature we add has to work in the free tier first. It is not the place we ship features after the paid team approves them. When we built spaced repetition review, it shipped free. When we added the pronunciation feedback loop, it shipped free. Building free-first means our roadmap gets tested by the largest, most diverse group of users we have, instead of a small paying cohort.

Third, we are transparent about what you are paying for when you upgrade. Paying members get longer study streaks, offline mode, and detailed progress analytics. None of that is a missing feature in the free app. It is a useful addition once you have a habit to protect. You can see the full comparison on the site before you decide.

The people behind Lingua-Lab are language learners who got tired of feeling played by the industry. We are small, we are independent, and we answer to the people who use the app every day, not to a growth chart. If you want to see what that looks like in practice, open the free tier and use it the way a paid user would. If it earns a spot in your routine, the upgrade conversation happens on your terms.
