How it works

Everything you need to know
about Lingua·Lab

Simple answers for students, families, and teachers — no tech knowledge required.

Step by step

How a practice session works

Every session is a real conversation with an AI tutor that never judges, never gets tired, and gives every student 100% of its attention.

1

Pick your language and level

Choose Italian, French, or Spanish — then pick the right skill level for you. Not sure? Start at A1 and move up when it feels too easy. There is no wrong choice.

2

Hold the microphone button and speak

Press and hold the big microphone button, say something in your chosen language, then let go. That's it. No typing needed. The app listens to you speak — just like a real conversation. Your phone's microphone works perfectly.

3

The AI tutor replies instantly

An AI tutor — powered by the same technology behind ChatGPT — responds in the language you are learning. It corrects mistakes kindly, teaches new words, and keeps the conversation going at exactly your pace.

4

See how well you pronounced each word

After you speak, Lingua·Lab shows a score for every single word. Green means spot on. Yellow means almost there. Red means let's try that one again. You can even tap "Hear it" to listen to the correct pronunciation.

5

Earn XP and badges as you improve

Every practice session earns experience points. Hit milestones — like your first 10 minutes of speaking or mastering a tricky sound — and unlock language badges you can be proud of.

Pronunciation feedback

Your score — word by word

Most language apps only tell you "wrong" or "right." Lingua·Lab shows you exactly which part of a word needs work, so you know where to focus.

The score uses a green–yellow–red system that anyone can understand at a glance. Green words are already solid. Yellow words are close — a little more practice. Red words are where the real learning happens.

A pronunciation score of 80 or above means native speakers will understand you clearly. Below 60 means a little more work before it sticks naturally.

Example feedback · Italian

"Buongiorno, come stai oggi?"

Word-by-word score
Buongiorno come stai oggi
Buongiorno

92

💡 The AI tutor will gently correct oggi and invite you to try again.

Four ways to practise

Pick the mode that fits your mood

Different activities keep learning interesting. Students can switch modes every session — or their teacher can assign one.

💬

Free Conversation

Just talk. The AI picks a topic — ordering food, describing your weekend, talking about music — and keeps the chat flowing naturally. Perfect for building confidence when you don't know exactly what to say next.

🎭

Roleplay

Step into a real-life scene — checking in at a hotel, buying train tickets, asking for directions in Rome. The AI plays the other person and gives you a genuine situation to navigate. Great preparation for actual travel or exams.

🎯

Pronunciation Drill

Focus entirely on sounding right. The AI gives you sentences designed around the sounds you find most difficult — double consonants in Italian, the French nasal vowels, the rolling Spanish R. Repeat, score, improve.

📚

Vocabulary Builder

Learn new words by actually using them. The AI introduces a theme — food, school, sport, travel — and weaves the target vocabulary into a real conversation. Words you learn this way stick much better than flashcards.

Skill levels

What each level really means

Lingua·Lab uses the same six-level scale that schools and language exams use worldwide — from complete beginner to near-native speaker.

A1

Complete beginner

You know a few greetings and numbers. The AI speaks slowly, uses simple words, and helps you build your very first sentences. A great place to start — there is zero pressure.

A2

Getting started

You can handle everyday situations — shopping, asking the time, introducing yourself. The AI starts to expect short phrases and gently pushes you to say a little more each time.

B1

Intermediate

You can hold a basic conversation on familiar topics. You make mistakes, but people understand you. The AI will start correcting grammar more often and introducing more variety.

B2

Upper-intermediate

You can talk about most things — work, hobbies, opinions — fairly fluently. The AI expects more complex sentences and will challenge you with cultural topics and idiomatic expressions.

C1

Advanced

You express yourself clearly and spontaneously. The AI holds full, nuanced conversations and focuses your feedback on fine details — subtle pronunciation, register, and style.

C2

Near-native

You can understand almost everything and express yourself with precision. The AI debates, tells stories, and discusses complex ideas. Feedback targets the tiniest differences from native speech.

For educators

The teacher dashboard

Teachers get a clear view of every student's progress — no marking, no test papers, no chasing for homework. The data is just there.

👥

Manage your class

Create student accounts in seconds. Students sign in with a simple passphrase sent to their email — no passwords to forget, no app store downloads required. Works on any browser.

📊

Track every student

See how many minutes each student has practised, their average pronunciation scores, which words they struggle with most, and how their XP score is growing over time.

🎧

Listen back

Every recording is stored securely. Teachers can replay what a student actually said — not just see a score, but hear the pronunciation — to give specific, targeted feedback in class.

🏫

School & district accounts

Schools can have multiple classrooms under one umbrella. A school admin manages all teachers and their classes from a single dashboard — no spreadsheets needed.

🏆

Badges and motivation

Students earn language badges — "First conversation in Italian," "10 minutes of French" — automatically. Teachers can see who has earned what and celebrate progress in class.

✉️

Engagement reminders

Students who haven't practised in a while receive a personalised AI-written nudge by email — a gentle, friendly reminder in the language they are learning. No configuration needed.

Works everywhere

Any device with a microphone

No app to download. Open a browser, sign in, and start practising. That is genuinely all it takes.

Safety and privacy

Built safe for students

Lingua·Lab is designed from the ground up to be safe for younger learners. Student data is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared.

🔐

Secure accounts

Student accounts are created by their teacher. Students sign in with a passphrase sent to their school email — no social media login, no third-party accounts.

🎤

Audio recordings

Recordings are stored on private AWS servers in the United States. Only the student and their teacher can access them. Recordings are automatically deleted after 180 days.

🤖

AI conversations

Conversations are sent to OpenAI for AI responses. We use strict content policies to keep every topic appropriate for classroom use. No personal information is ever sent to OpenAI.

📧

No ads, ever

Lingua·Lab is a paid subscription service. There are no advertisements, no tracking pixels, and no data brokering. Your students are not the product.
